Summer Camps
Some say a Jewish camp is any place that has Jewish campers, when others say Jewish camp; they mean a place where their children can have a very intensive Jewish experience. We believe that a camping experience can provide children with a unique Jewish opportunity to learn about nature, sports, crafts, cooking and community in a Jewish setting: “Jewish learning through Jewish living“ Judaica and Hebrew are incorporated into their activities based on a "Jewish" theme.

This summer we have over 60 campers at OSRUI. Some are there for the first time; others have been going for seven years. These pictures show many of our students having a great time up there. We have campers in every unit in camp. We have two campers in Chalutzim, the seven week Hebrew speaking unit. In every other unit, Etz Chaim is well represented.

For our 3rd through 11th graders, there is Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI), the Union for Reform Judaism’s overnight camp located in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. The OSRUI experience provides our children with a unique Jewish opportunity to learn about nature, sports, crafts, cooking and community in a Jewish setting. It is “Jewish learning through Jewish living,” where Judaica and Hebrew are incorporated into their daily activities. Click here for more information about OSRUI.
For our 3-, 4- or 5-year-olds, who are too young to go to OSRUI, we offer Camp Katan (“Katan” means “little” in Hebrew), right here at Etz Chaim. It is a half-day program that runs for two weeks. Camp Katan has sports activities, craft activities, cooking projects, water fun and a cookout.
Rabbi Bob often says that sending our children to Jewish summer camp is one of the best ways to strengthen their ties to Judaism. Countless Etz Chaim parents can attest to the truth of that statement!
