Outreach Committee

Charter of the Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee of Congregation Etz Chaim shall extend services to members of the congregation and to persons associated with members of the Congregation in order to:

  • Perpetuate the open and welcoming culture of Congregation Etz Chaim
  • Support the desire of both non-Jewish and Jewish persons to be comfortable, knowledgeable, and involved with the Jewish religion or community
  • Sustain the growth of Etz Chaim through the facilitation of personal, long-term connections to the Congregation
Outreach Services: Personal Support Outreach Services: Interfaith Support                  
Personal support will be provided for: Interfaith support will be provided for:
Persons seeking to become Jews-by-choice, Members of Congregation Etz Chaim
New Jews-by-choice seeking to strengthen their relationship with the Jewish community;
 
Persons associated with members of the Congregation
Persons seeking to strengthen their relationship with the Congregation (members or potential members) Types of interfaith situations where people may seek Outreach:

Persons returning to the Jewish community after a period of absence
 
People in an interfaith relationship
  Non-Jewish fathers/mothers with children being raised as Jews
  Members of the Congregation with non-Jewish children
  Non-Jewish grandparents of Jewish children of Congregation members

The services of the Outreach Committee shall be provided on a 1:1 basis
  • It is recognized that each person’s questions or concerns are individual and unique.
  • It is also recognized that a person’s specific needs will often require a response within a specific timeframe.
  • Therefore, Outreach services shall be provided through an initiative that pairs a person(s) seeking Outreach services with a member of the Congregation who has volunteered and been trained to be an Outreach Sponsor.
Referrals to Outreach Sponsors will be made by the Rabbis, the Director of Education, the Temple Administrator, and the President and Vice Presidents of the Congregation or the Committee Chairs. Referrals can be made as theses individuals become aware of a person or family who may benefit from and who requests a form of Outreach service when informed that it is available. Additionally, temple members or persons associated with temple members may self-refer and request services by contacting the Outreach Chair.
 


The Outreach Committee shall operate in collaboration with the Membership Committee
with co-chairs responsible for each separate focus and related services
